Oyster Happy Hour in NYC – 7 Great Places for $1 Oysters

Metromix New York outlined seven awesome places for bargain oysters this valentine season, many as low as a $1 a piece.

  • Mermaid Oyster Bar (79 Macdougal St. near Houston St., 212-260-0100)
Daily from 5:30 to 7 p.m., diners can slurp down $1 oysters of the day. (A recent visit turned up Malpeques.) The same deal is also up for grabs at the East Village and Upper West Side locations.
  • The Ten Bells (247 Broome St. between Ludlow and Orchard Sts., 212-228-4450)
Every day until 7 p.m., the week’s selection of two oysters (everything from Malpeques to Kumamotos) go for $1 each, or $2 thereafter.
  • Desnuda (122 E. Seventh St. between First Ave. and Avenue A, 212-254-3515)
On Sundays beginning at 2 p.m. and Mondays from 6 p.m. onward, Blue Points go for $1, Hama Hamas from Washington State run $2, and Massachusetts Wellfleet oysters are $3 each. Half shells are served with a trio of inventive housemade mignonettes ranging from spicy to smoky to sweet.
  • Cornelius (565 Vanderbilt Ave. at Pacific St., 718-398-6662)
Happy hour happens daily from 5 to 7 p.m., and all night on Mondays, featuring dollar oysters and $4 beers. Oysters also go for a buck each on weeknights after 10 p.m.
  • Lure Fishbar (142 Mercer St. at Prince St., 212-431-7676)
Happy hour goes from 5 to 7 p.m. weekdays and includes $1 Blue Points, as well as drink specials like $7 cocktails (a $7 drink special? Go figure.).
  • Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. Seventh St. between Second Ave. and Bowery, 212-982-3006)
Thursdays are “Local Oysters, Local Beer” nights. A plate of three local oysters (anything from Tomahawks to Peconic Pearls) is $5, as are pints of the week’s local beer.
  • Oceana (1221 Sixth Ave. at 49th St., 212-759-5941)
From 9 p.m. onward, knock a dollar off oyster prices with any full-price cocktail. This means mollusks for (usually) $2 apiece, presented grandly on a silver platter with housemade fruit mignonette.
