Helium Mobile is offering a $5 Unlimited Plan and it will start exclusively in Miami. They are launching in a single city to continue to scale their unique coverage model that combines their partner’s (T-Mobile) nationwide 5G network with the people-built, open source Helium Mobile Network. If you are in Miami, you can sign up today. Service is not restricted to Miami but it seems you need to be a Miami “resident” to sign up at launch.

Helium Mobile vision is to offer a people-powered alternative to the existing mobile service landscape. By providing and connecting to compatible wireless Hotspots that leverage individuals’ existing internet connections, communities can create their own networks and share access. they are creating an easy and consumer-friendly way for anyone to access that people-powered network in collaboration with the nation’s largest 5G network, T-Mobile. I’m not sure how well this works but their fallback is T-Mobile’s 5G network and that seems like good deal at $5/month.
