Helium Mobile Zero Plan: 3GB Data, 300 Texts, & 100 Talk Mins  Per Month for FREE

Helium Mobile is offer a Zero Plan which includes 100 Talk Minutes, 300 Texts and 3GB of Data per month for FREE. To use this service, you will need an unlocked smartphone that is capable of running in T-Mobile’s network. There is currently a waitlist for the service but you can get started by downloading the Helium Mobile app (Android / iOS) and create an account using the invite code: BREAKFREE. No credit card or other payment info is required for the Free plan but you will need to verify your identity with a government-issued ID and taking a selfie of yourself. You will have the option to activate your service using eSIM or physical SIM card (you can order it in the app for Free and it also ships Free).

Helium Mobile’s free plan is made possible with its community-built network, a new type of infrastructure that is less expensive than legacy carriers. In exchange for the free plan, you’ll share your anonymized location data, enabling the community to create coverage where it’s most needed. It falls back on T-Mobiles network were they don’t have direct coverage so it sound like it should be pretty reliable. You can port over your existing number if you want and there will be opportunities to earn rewards with Cloud Points that is redeemable for third party gift cards like Walmart and Airbnb.

Unlimited 5G Mobile Service for $5 for Helium Mobile (Using T-Mobile’s Network)

Helium Mobile is offering a $5 Unlimited Plan and it will start exclusively in Miami. They are launching in a single city to continue to scale their unique coverage model that combines their partner’s (T-Mobile) nationwide 5G network with the people-built, open source Helium Mobile Network. If you are in Miami, you can sign up today. Service is not restricted to Miami but it seems you need to be a Miami “resident” to sign up at launch.

Helium Mobile vision is to offer a people-powered alternative to the existing mobile service landscape. By providing and connecting to compatible wireless Hotspots that leverage individuals’ existing internet connections, communities can create their own networks and share access. they are creating an easy and consumer-friendly way for anyone to access that people-powered network in collaboration with the nation’s largest 5G network, T-Mobile. I’m not sure how well this works but their fallback is T-Mobile’s 5G network and that seems like good deal at $5/month.
